So you have grown tired of those pesky little 1 lb canisters of Mapp. And now you want to upgrade to a bulk tank. You will need a hose that is compatible with the bulk tank of Mapp, propylene, chemtane etc... and your torch. This hose is available at most glass suppliers and can also be found in your local camping section in your local store. This hose is usually used for connecting a bulk tank of propane to camping equipment. (Coleman camp stoves, lanterns etc...) You also need a large "C" clamp, "L" bracket and a hose clamp. Take a look at the pic below for mounting suggestion. Optional, you can screw the "L" bracket to your work surface instead of using the "C" clamp. |

About the dreaded "Freeze-up". All of a sudden your torch goes from a tiny flame to a huge flamethrowing flame.And sometimes spits an oily gunk. Please remember I am not a rocket scientist and the below explanation is just my understanding on the ";Freeze-up" problem. I could be completely wrong.
Occasionally, especially in hot weather, the bulk tanks will over pressurize and freeze-up. This is characterized by cold spots in the torch, hose or tank valve. This is also caused by an overfull tank. Basically, the fuel does not have enough room in the tank to properly vaporize and liquid fuel comes out into the hose and causes a freezup. This is usually avoided by asking your local fuel supplier to not fill the tanks so full and keeping your tank out of the sun. After a few hours use on a new tank, this usually doesn't happen again and you'll be happily making beads with a well behaved torch. |
